In the Fossen mountains, in Norway, reindeer herders spent two decades fighting against Europe's largest wind energy project, which stretches across their pastures. But even before the case progressed through the legal system, the Norwegian state granted preliminary access to the wind energy companies, allowing them to build 151 enormous turbines in the mountains. A few years later, the situation changes: the Norwegian Supreme Court rules that the wind farm violates the human rights of the Sami (the region's indigenous people), offering hope that the reindeer herders can finally reclaim the mountains on which their culture depends. But the victory soon loses its luster.
