REDE BRASILEIRA DE JORNALISMO AMBIENTAL AWARD (environmental journalists association) went to Waking the Green Tiger (Gary Marcuse, Canada), as it gives an historical, cultural and economic view of China since the Mao Tse Tung’s Communist Revolution days showing how authoritarianism mixed with lack of scientific knowledge can lead to environmental destruction, misery and natural disasters. It also reveals the power of the environmentalist mobilization that resulted in the creation of the Environment Impact Act in a country that is fully controlled by the State. O Despertar do Tigre Verde (Waking the Green Tiger, Gary Marcuse | Canadá) por considerar que o filme dá uma visão histórica, cultural e econômica da China desde a época da revolução comunista de Mao Tsé Tung até os dias de hoje, mostrando como o autoritarismo sem preparo científico pode destruir o meio ambiente, trazendo miséria e catástrofes naturais. Também revela o poder da mobilização ambientalista organizada com o envolvimento dos povos locais que resultou na lei do impacto ambiental, num país que tem ainda o controle do Estado.
