The Battle for Laikipia

For centuries, the Laikipia region of Kenya has been a grazing route used by native communities with their livestock. It is also home to white farmers and conservationists who settled during the British colonial period and remained after Kenya gained independence in 1963. For decades, the devastating effects of climate change have been felt by pastoralist communities, farmers and conservation area owners, who depend on natural pastures to support farmed and wild animals. When drought and local elections meet, conflicts erupt.
