Her research areas focus on the history of slavery and ethnic-racial relations in the Americas. She has published the books Al\u00e9m da senzala: arranjos escravos de moradia no Rio de Janeiro 1808-1850 (Hucitec, 2010), Hist\u00f3ria da \u00c1frica e do Brasil afrodescendente (Pallas, 2017), Juliano Moreira: o m\u00e9dico negro na funda\u00e7\u00e3o da psiquiatria brasileira (EdUFF, 2020), and Racismo brasileiro: uma hist\u00f3ria da forma\u00e7\u00e3o do pa\u00eds (Todavia, 2022). In 2025, she released Irm\u00e3s do Atl\u00e2ntico: escravid\u00e3o e espa\u00e7o urbano no Rio de Janeiro e Havana.
