We live in a time where images have an increasing influence in both public and private opinions. Films and videos are instruments that communicate immediately and effectively. Films encourage people to reflect, discuss and can possibly inspire them to change behaviors. No other medium as audiovisual is as effective to demonstrate how we live our lives. And no other can disseminate models of living that are sustainable and viable, enabling a better future for humanity. Based on this Filmambiente yearly presents films portraying different views and experiences on environmental issues and sustainability, from all around the globe, creating a panorama of world thoughts, examples and solutions, in order to inspire and motivate people to change lifestyles and influence their community and country to follow.

WHAT WE DO Filmambiente annually shows the best recent films and videos on environmental issues and all the screenings are free of charge and subtitled in Portuguese. Our key activities are:

Suzana Amado

Has been a producer for television and cinema for more than 30 years. She started her career at TV Educativa (Public Television – broadcast); co-directed the Distribution Dept. of Embrafilme and was marketing manager for Columbia Pictures, Art Films and Campus/Elsevier Publishing House. Her recent productions include: the television serials A Turma do Pererê, (TVBrasil 2009), I`ll Raffle of My Heart (Canal Brasil – 2013)and Joana e Marcelo (Multishow Cable TV – 2002); the documentaries I´ll Raffle off My Heart (2012) Transcending Lynch, (2009); Hercules 56 (2006), Seven Generations into the Future (2005 – local producer) and We are Brazil (2003); the features Forbidden To Forbid (2005) and Korda (2004) and the television film Half Sex, Half Mozzarella, (Multishow – 2002). She created, directs, and is the curator of Filmambiente Festival.

Valéria Burke

She is a producer, researcher and assistant director, working mainly in documentaries. Valeria has also experience in exhibitions of audiovisual content, in addition to films and TV programs. Since the beginning of her career, she developed a strong affinity and accumulated experience in projects related to environmental and sustainability issues, having been a collaborator for many years in the Expeditions (Tv Brasil). She filmed many times in the Amazon and other regions in Brazil, including some international productions. She collaborated, among others, for projects of 4Ventos, TV Zero, 3 Tables Films, Mis en Cine, Anima Productions, RW Cine, Raccord Productions, Canal Futura, Beloved Art and Production, Multishow, Abbas Filmes, Conspiração Filmes e Refinaria Filmes. She also worked with icons from Brazilian cinema, as Paulo César Saraceni, Mario Carneiro and Sérgio Bernardes, but also with recent talents such as Camilo Cavalcanti, Eduardo Nunes, Rosane Svartman, Beth Formaggini and Ana Rieper. She graduated as a Gaia Education / Unesco Certified Facilitator (Education for Sustainability) in 2017 in Scotland, and completed in 2018 a Masters in Sciences, at the University of Edinburgh in the area of ​​Global Challenges of Environment, Development and health.

Bernardo Thedim

Production assistant on the first Filmambiente and program coordinator since 2012, Bernardo is responsible for the venues and for supervising the transportation of guests. He worked as PA on some political and advertising campaigns, and on national and international film productions located in Rio, as the Twilight film, also coordinating transport on some of these productions.

Raquel Couto

Graduated on Social Communications, Raquel is a director and editor of films and television series, either on personal projects or others through her company – Uirapuru Films. She is part of Filmambiente crew since the first edition, responsible for receiving the selected films and preparing the programs for all the venues.

Marcelo Paes de Carvalho

Works with audiovisual production, cultural management, and information technology projects. Currently develops several actions in the third sector, in audiovisual and new media education. Partner at Incartaz Filmes e Eventos (since 1995), also is in the board of directors of several institutions, such as Instituto InCartaz, Instituto Viver Mais e Melhor and Instituto Harmonya do Brasil. Coordinates the FilmInBrasil Program, which circulates with workshops, workshops and training courses in audiovisual production throughout Brazil. He has lectured and taught courses and workshops at several institutions, such as SESC, SENAI, SEBRAE, Banco do Nordeste, UNESA, UCAM, UFF , Anhanguera, among others. Are among his clients and partners companies and institutions such as UNICEF, UN, American Airlines, University of Michigan, NIKE, among others. Invited constantly as a curator and to be part of the jury of film festivals in several states of the country. In the first half of 2017 alone has been in 24 countries with a project called BackPack4Life.
